What is that fruit? Water apple

What is that fruit!?
As we explore the lush vegetarian world we meet new fruits and vegetables along the way.  We will introduce you to some of our favourites and not so favourite discoveries along our journey.

Jambu Air (Malay Rose Apple) Rose Apple, Water Apple..

So many names for one fruit! I first encountered these fruits on Gili Air where I attracted by their shiny pink colour.  Water apple is a good name for these as they are extremely wet. When you take a bite, you cause a tsunami.

They are crunchy and great chilled.  Like the custard apple, the flavour is reminiscent of a conifer tree.  They have a pleasant pine or cedar flavour that brings back memories of a chilly Nordic Christmas.  It seems hard to believe that a small red fruit from Malaysia can taste like a Canadian forest, but once again we are reminded to have zero expectations when trying something new. It’s just more fun that way.
